I never knew LW to play this style of music. LW was all about the Lennon Sisters, Jo Ann Castle playing the piano and Bobby and Sissy dancing. Oops, forgot the guy who played the spoons.

At eight decades of age now, I still love this song. I remember hearing it as a boy in the 1950s and I've carried it around in my head ever since, I believe I first hear it by Vaughn Monroe. The lyrics are poetry and easily envision the scenes they describe. Oh, so much is lost.

Vaughan Monroe’s was the first version I heard, too. It was released in 1949, but I heard it in the mid ‘50s on some long lost AM radio station. I was 9-10 yrs old. Fantastic!

Thanks, Bill. I'm not sure what you mean by "realistic." The Folsom Prison Warden told me in 2007 when I presented him with a framed copy--"If the guards had done that today, they would have been fired!" The Warden said "This photo is the only one he knows to exist" showing a private citizen sitting for a mugshot at a Maximum Security Prison. Cash was NEVER a prisoner there BUT that photo is as real as a heart attack! Lol.

@@JonathanHoliff1 What I meant was that Cash was never a prisoner at Folsom and that the photo was more of a joke. The 1965 mug shot in El Paso was "real" in that he was arrested. A lot of people still think Cash recorded the Folsom album while a prisoner. BTW - Glad you mentioned the fact that your father was responsible for having Cash play larger venues. My first show was in Newark, N,J, in 1960. It was a package show that included Rose Maddox and several local artists who had never recorded. I was 15, had inadvertently done a favor for Cash, and Luther Perkins took me to Cash's dressing room. That was the first of over 30years of backstage visits. Two years later Cash was at Carnegie Hall with a totally different audience. You father was the genius who broadened Cash's appeal beyond country music.
